Nigeria’s real estate market is crowded with agents, but genuinely trusted agency brands are far fewer than the numbers suggest. Credibility is the competitive advantage that most agents underestimate. Here is how to build it deliberately from the ground up.
1. Register your business formally: Register your real estate business with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and obtain all necessary licences and permits. Operating as a registered entity immediately separates you from the vast majority of informal operators and signals seriousness to clients, landlords, and developers.
2. Get professionally certified: Organisations like the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) and the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) offer professional membership and networking opportunities with top industry players. Certification gives clients an external standard to hold you accountable to.
3. Build a professional digital presence: Your website is your digital storefront. It should showcase your brand, display property listings with high-quality images, feature client testimonials, and include a blog section sharing real estate insights to educate and attract buyers. In 2025, an agency without an online presence is invisible to a significant portion of its potential market.
4. List on credible property platforms: Property listing sites such as PropertyPro and Private Property, alongside social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, are among the most effective channels for real estate visibility in Nigeria. Consistent, professional listings on these platforms build familiarity and trust over time.
5. Deliver exceptional post-transaction service: Most Nigerian agents disappear after a deal closes. Following up with clients after move-in, checking in during tenancy renewals, and offering ongoing advice converts one-time clients into repeat customers and referral sources, which remain the most reliable lead generation channel in the Nigerian market.
6. Let verified reviews speak for you: Actively collect written and video testimonials from satisfied clients. Providing multiple options, explaining pros and cons of each choice, and offering post-sale support builds the long-term relationships that eventually generate the kind of organic reputation no advertising budget can buy.
Trust is built in small moments and lost in one transaction. Build yours intentionally.

Post-transaction follow up is genuinely the most underused growth strategy in Nigerian real estate. My last four clients came from referrals by two people I sold to in 2022. I did nothing special except call to check in a few weeks after they moved in. That single habit has been worth more than any advertising I have ever paid for.

The CAC registration point is where most agents cut corners and it shows. Clients are increasingly asking for your RC number before they trust you with serious transactions. It costs very little to register properly and the credibility it adds to your brand is immediate and lasting.
