1. Housing
This is your biggest expense. A 1-bedroom apartment in mid-range Mainland areas like Yaba or Surulere costs between ₦150,000 and ₦300,000 monthly when annualised, while Island locations like Lekki and Victoria Island run significantly higher. Remember that Lagos rent is paid one to two years upfront, and agency and legal fees add a combined 10 to 20 percent on top of the headline figure.

2. Food
A reasonable monthly grocery budget for one person runs between ₦30,000 and ₦60,000. Eating out regularly will push this higher. Cooking at home remains the most reliable way to control food costs in Lagos.

3. Transportation
Daily commuters spending on fuel, maintenance, and insurance can expect to spend between ₦80,000 and ₦200,000 monthly on transportation alone. Those using public transport and ride-hailing apps spend considerably less, though Lagos traffic makes every commute unpredictable.
